I’ve wanted to write about Thalaivar for as long as I can remember. Is it because everyone adores him? Is it because he’s a messiah of style or is it because he can aura-farm the second he enters a frame? No. It’s deeper than that.
Rajinikanth is not just a star. He is a legacy.
A dark-skinned, ordinary man who walked into Tamil cinema and shattered the industry. You might think his charisma was natural and that his style was a birthmark but I think everything we see today the cigarette flip, the iconic punching delivery , the most stylish hair flick was carved, refined, and earned over fifty years of his relentless work. Fifty years of shaping an aura that no one else can replace!
Every time he smiles in pain, every moment he slides on those glasses, every time he plays the common man we don’t just watch, we connect.

A Hero of the Common Man
From milk vendor to auto driver, Thalaivar has lived the struggles of the characters he portrayed. That’s why his roles resonate for people who find life tough, he becomes hope. They say, “Thalaivar andha padathla panra maadhri” and they carry on, taking punches with the belief that they too can rise.
From villain to hero, from actor to superstar, his journey is no ordinary feat. Staying on top for half a century in an industry as uncertain as cinema? That’s true persistence.
A Rajini film isn’t just a release an event, a celebration where families flood theatres, where the frame of his entry alone is worth the ticket.

Not Hero Worship, But Admiration
Is this hero worship? I don’t think so. It’s something purer. A collective sense of admiration and respect. Even those who criticize his films rarely criticize the actor . In Tamil Nadu, it’s rare to meet someone who says, “I hate Rajini.” He has created a whole generation that watched cinema just for him.

My First Glimpse
For me, it started with Sivaji. At least, that’s my first memory of him. I was just a kid, a little fanboy who didn’t even understand what “star power” meant but knew I was witnessing something special.
But one film changed everything
Thalapathi.
That was when I truly understood his impact. Mani Ratnam gave us Surya, and Rajini embodied him with such power, loyalty, vulnerability and grey shades. I realised cinema can be layered, characters can be human yet larger than life. It wasn’t just acting, it was re-living. That role didn’t just entertain me, it influenced where I stand today.

Why He’ll Always Be Thalaivar
No matter how critics dissect his films, no matter how good or bad the story may be, Rajinikanth is always Thalaivar. When he’s on screen, the world blurs, the audio fades, and I lose myself in a trance only he can create.
He is not just a superstar. He is a phenomenon that belongs to the people.
For me, for Tamil cinema, and for millions across the world. Thalaivar will always be Thalaivar
Love you, Thalaiva.
